Fun, Hands-On Apple STEAM Activities for Preschoolers

Combine your favorite apple theme with fun hands-on STEAM activities!

STEAM represents the combination of Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math. STEAM focuses on integrating each of the subjects in fun and engaging ways.

Instead of looking at STEAM as one more activity to fit in your already busy schedule, look at how you can add STEAM to what you already are doing inside the classroom by creating a STEAM experience! It’s easy to find time for STEAM when you make it an integrative STEAM experience!

Apple Sensory STEAM Activities

Sensory play is an important part of a young child’s healthy development.  One of the easiest ways to start a STEAM experience is to start with sensory play.  Introduce open-ended exploring with a sensory table/bin related to your learning theme.

Check out the links below for some Apple Sensory Play inspiration:

Easy Apple Sensory Bing from Preschool STEAM

Apple Cinnamon Sensory Bin from Fantastic Fun and Learning

Apple Printmaking from Handmade Kids Art

STEAM Challenges for Preschoolers

After you have allowed time for children to explore and play with apples, create the next step in your STEAM experience by introducing a STEAM challenge!

A STEAM challenge is a hands-on activity where children are solving a specific problem.

Challenges should still be open-ended and there should be more than one right way to solve the problem. Challenges help develop problem-solving, creative and critical thinking skills.

STEAM Investigations for Preschoolers

After you have allowed time for open-ended play and have challenged your young thinkers try introducing an investigation to complete your STEAM experience.

Observe what interests your students have displayed while learning and playing with apples. Based on your student’s interests pick an investigation from the list below to complete your STEAM experience.

Apple Investigations for Preschoolers:

Making Apple Pies with Preschoolers from Stay at Home Educator

Apple Taste Test from What Do We Do All Day

Bubble Science with Apples from Preschool Powol Packets

Apple Drying Experiment from Adventure in a Box
