This summer we have launched a new Explore and Play Series. Since a lot of us are staying home and summer camps are canceled, we decided it would be fun to share weekly prompts you can do at home with your children.
Play is how young children learn and build knowledge about the world around them but play also helps children process stress and anxiety. With all the changes happening in our world today children need time to process and heal (just like adults do too –> check out our podcast , on why you need to play too!).
Benefits of Water Play:
Water play helps develop so many skills in children. Here are some reasons why we love and foster activities with water.
Problem Solving Skills- Children can manipulate water. They can see what will sink or float in the water. They can see why it didn’t sink or float and change their original idea.
Math- Kids can determine more or less when filling up a container with water. They can measure out a 1/2 cup or cup of water. Kids can even pour water into a bucket scale and see what makes it sit level.
Physical Development- Transferring of water, squeezing water out of a ball or pipette, and stirring water is strengthening their hands and hand/eye coordination.
