For the older artist or as an extension to first car painting activity (lesson 1.2) try creating a tape resist race track.

This is still an open-ended activity so the end result is not as important as creating it.

Step 1: Let your child tear pieces of painters tape and lay the tape on the paper to create their race track design.

Step 2: Paint!

Step 3: Once the paint is completely dry, carefully peel off the painters tape. Adult assistance may be needed.

Step 4: With a permanent marker add your road marks or other race track details.

Remember to keep the project open-ended and let your child design their own race track. Maybe your child wants to make a map of the neighborhood or use the roads as something else…that is okay!

Encourage your child’s creativity by asking questions and prompting their creative thinking.
