Book: The Best Nest by P.D Eastman

Materials: Air Dry Clay, Natural Materials

Step 1: Read the story. Discuss what natural elements birds use to make a nest.

Step 2: Collect natural materials to build your own bird’s nest.

Step 3:  Build a nest!

Use clay to form the shape of the nest while adding your natural elements.

Do not show the students how to form a nest shape but rather let your child experiment and discover their own way to do it.

Math Extension: How many eggs (marbles or cotton balls) can your nest hold?

Art Extension: Create a clay bird to fit in your nest.
